WHAT MUST WE DO WITH SIN?

Romans 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye
should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13 Neither yield ye your members as
instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those
that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness
unto God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the
law, but under grace. 15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the
law, but under grace? God forbid. 16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield
yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin
unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17 But God be thanked, that ye
were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of
doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became
the servants of righteousness.
INTRO:
There is something that has bound Man, plagued Man, driven Man, and enslaved Man
since nearly the beginning of Creation. That something is SIN.
SIN HAS: Ruined us, Broke us, Stripped Us, Defiled Us, Dishonored Us, Degraded
Us, Corrupted Us.
Sin has tainted the bloodline of humanity
Sin has Contaminated our Gene Pool,
Sin is an infectious disease that has infected and affected every man or woman
that has ever walked and lived on this planet.
The Bible informs us that there was once a perfect man, and a perfect woman. The
Bible goes on to let us know that one day they partook of disobedience, and at
that point perfection was no more, WHY? SIN had entered their lives,
because of Disobedience.
Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by
sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
The fall from perfection into sin that Adam took, Started a Universal epidemic
of SIN. Romans 5:12 lets us know that Adams Fall ruined us
all.
SIN is a brutal disease. Sin is Vicious Vile Virus
Psalm 38:3 … neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. 4
For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too
heavy for me.
Prov. 11:3...but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
Prov. 14:34 … sin is a reproach to any people.
Prov. 21:15 … destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
This disease deforms, decays, and devours. This disease will even:
A. TAKE YOUR LIFE:
Don’t ever let anyone convince you that there are no consequences to SIN.
Don’t ever let anyone convince you that there is no price to pay for the
pleasures of Sin.
Gen. 3:3 God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it,
lest ye die.
That’s what verse 16 in our text is all about
Romans 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to
obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of
obedience unto righteousness?
SIN could cause your physical life to end premature, BUT one thing we know for
definite is SIN WILL KILL YOUR SPIRITUAL LIFE, AND MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR
HOPE OF ETERNAL LIFE.
James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own
lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and
sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
If you harbor SIN in your life your earnings are that you die. Death is sin’s
paycheck.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death;
Prov. 11:19 so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.
Eze. 18:4 … the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Eze. 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die….
Oh, but even worse than Death, This disease:
B. SEPARATES US FROM GOD:
When this infection spreads it’s way into your entire being something worse than
death occurs. When this disease has gripped you on every side it will separate
you from the Almighty.
What a terrible thought that is to be separated from God, but that’s exactly
what Sin does!!
Isa 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your
sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
Hosea 5:5 And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: therefore shall
Israel and Ephraim fall in their iniquity; Judah also shall fall with them. 6
They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the LORD; but they
shall not find him; he hath withdrawn himself from them.
What a Tragic condition, and miserable place to be. Separated from God
When your separated from God your separated from:
* HAPPINESS * HOPE * PEACE * PROVISION
* LIFE *LOVE
* WISDOM * JOY *GRACE *MERCY
*STRENGTH
* SHELTER *PROMISE *ETERNITY
That’s Right, This separation that sin causes will one day (if something isn’t
done) will be exercised to the highest level, and you will be separated from God
for all eternity.
Psalms 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell...
Jesus will look at every man, woman ,boy, and girl, That has sin in their heart
and say
“Depart from me ye worker of iniquity”
What a terrible state this disease has left us in. It is claming life, after
life, after life.
You might be saying to yourself today :
I WANT OUT OF SINS GRASP. I WANT TO ESCAPE SINS PUNISHMENT
SO WHAT MUST WE DO?
** >> 1st I want to let you know that it’s not hopeless.
THERE IS A CURE FOR THIS DISEASE:
>> IT ‘S THE BLOOD OF JESUS
SONG> “What Can Wash Away My Sin? Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus!”
SONG> “There Is A Fountain Filled With Blood Drawn From Emmanuel's Veins,
And Sinners Plunged Beneath The Flood Loose All The Guilty Stains.”
Rev. 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the 1st
begotten of the dead, and the Prince of the kings of the earth. Unto Him that
loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own Blood.
Col 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the
forgiveness of sins:
1 Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship
one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all
sin
1 Pet 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible
things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition
from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb
without blemish and without spot:
Keeping in mind there is a cure, here is what we must do With Sin.
I. REPENT OF IT:
If you want to be free from sin you have to repent.
Jesus speaking:
Luke 13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise
perish.
God longs for you to repent. God loves you He doesn’t want you to die. He
doesn’t want you to be separated from Him so, He pleads REPENT!!!!!!
Rev 3: 19 (to Laodicea God say‘s)...be zealous therefore, and repent.
The great thing is when we repent God will forgive us our sin.
(The devil may try to convince you otherwise, but God will forgive you)
1 Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our
sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
This is where verse 14 of our text comes in: Romans 6:14 For
sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under
grace.
Then verse 18 say’s: 18 Being then made free from sin, ye
became the servants of righteousness.
If you repent God will forgive, and then you’ll experience liberty in the Lord.
II. THAT’S NOT THE END OF THE STORY:
There have been Many a Christian down through the years backslide on God because
they thought that was the end of the story. They thought that was all they had
to do, But it’s not!!!
W. F. Biederwolf said:
“Repentance does not mean remorse alone; Repentance means giving up sin!”
If you stop at just repentance and you don’t give up sin your in danger of
ending up back where you were.
2 Pet 2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world
through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again
entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the
beginning.
What else must we do with sin?
III. SEPARATE YOURSELF FROM IT:
Text verses 12 and 13:
Romans 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey
it in the lusts thereof. 13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of
unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God,
ILL: A little girl fell out of bed one night, and began to cry. Her
mother rushed into the room picked her up put her back in bed and asked, “Honey
why did you fall out of Bed?” the little girl reply was “I think I stayed to
close to the place where I got in.”
That’s the reason so many of us fall by the wayside. We stay to close to where
we got in.
If we want to make in this walk we have to separate ourselves from sin!!!!
J. C. Macauley Said:
“you can not play with sin and overcome it at the same time.”
We heard what J.C. said but what does the Word of God say?
2 Cor 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith
the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
1 Pet 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from
fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
The psalmist knew what it took:
Psalms 119:101 I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might
keep thy word.
Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of
witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset
us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto
Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;
Altar:
What will you do with Sin today? Will you allow it to remain. Will you allow it
to reign. Will you allow it to continue to defeat you, defraud you, and destroy
you?
Or will you come to the feet of God today and Repent of it?
